3G Nexus 7 Leaked Prior To Google’s Playground Android Event via FCC Site

Image
Rumors of a 3G-enabled Nexus 7  started circulating  at the beginning of September, with Paul O’Brien’s Modaco stating that the device would launch within six weeks. Unfortunately that time frame has just passed, however, with Monday’s Google event looming it appears we’re only days away from seeing the device for the first time. It was  reported earlier today  that UK retailer Carphone Warehouse prematurely opened pre-orders for the new LG Nexus 4 smartphone, confirming one of of Google’s unconfirmed products expected to be shown on its  October 29 Android event . Well additional news has come out that continues to reveal the key products expected to be announced at Google’s Playground press event. According to a listing on the FCC website – a  3G model of Google’s Nexus 7  is on its way, all but confirming that the device will launch on the same day. While certainly this find doesn’t come as a surprise, it is t...

13 years old girl strangled and then killed

Image
New Jersey authorities say girl was strangled by teen brothers for parts of her BMX bike A teenage boy lured a 12-year-old girl into his house under the guise of getting parts for her treasured bicycle and then, with his older brother, killed her, police said Tuesday. The girl's disappearance had sparked a frantic search by residents of her small town until a tip from the boys' mother led police to her body, stuffed into a home recycling bin. The boys, ages 15 and 17, were charged with murdering Autumn Pasquale, who disappeared while riding her BMX bike Saturday, a little more than a week before what would have been her 13th birthday. She appeared to have been strangled, Gloucester County prosecutor Sean Dalton said at a late-day news conference. Sean Dalton, the Gloucester County prosecutor,  said a teen lured Autumn into the home with the intention of stealing the bicycle for parts,  NJ.com reported . And there, the brothers allegedy killed her. '...

IPAD MINI versus NEXUS 7 WHICH ONE WILL YOU GET?

Image
Apple Used Their New iPad Mini To Bash The Nexus 7, But Was It Fair? Today Apple held a big event, revealing many refreshed products and one new one: the iPad Mini. The iPad Mini is Apple’s first forage into the smaller tablet market, going after competitors like the  Amazon Kindle Fire ,  Barnes & Noble Nook Color/Tablet , and of course the  Nexus 7 . And at 7.9″, it’s an excellent size. But during the event, they didn’t just unveil the iPad Mini: they used it to make the Nexus 7 look bad. Let’s ignore the fact that bringing up the comparison was acknowledging competition, something Apple doesn’t often do. Let’s just look at the facts. The first thing Apple states is that the Nexus 7 is thicker and heavier than the iPad Mini, despite having a smaller display (7 inches compared to 7.9). That one definitely goes to Apple, that’s good design. They also state that the Nexus 7 has 21.9 square inches of display real estate, while the Mini has 29.6 square inch...

New Leaked Press Render Shows Off Nexus 4 Prior To Google’s Playground Press Event on Monday

Image
It what is surely not a secret to anyone, LG’s Nexus 4, has seen countless leaked images of the device in all its glory. We’ve seen high-res images along with blurry indistinguishable ones but demand for the device is getting higher by the minute. Well it appears we have another leak courtesy of twitter account @evleaks of the final design of the phone in all its glory. This is essentially what is expected to be shown at Google’s Playground Press Event on Monday. Also of interest is the software on-screen, which appears to show a slightly redesigned notification tray. It seems this is our clearest look at the Nexus 4 — and possibly Android 4.2 — yet. Are you excited to get your Nexus 4? Is this something that still hasn’t appealed to you? As always, DroidDog will continue to keep an eye out for anything Nexus 4 related to keep you up to date. IPAD MINI VS KINDLE FIRE HD VS NEXUS 7

Image
Tablet Smackdown: Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 BY NATHAN OLIVAREZ-GILES AND ROBERTO BALDWIN 09.11.12 9:00 PM Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD is good. Really good. But the Nexus 7 is still the best $200 tablet.  Photo: Ariel Zambelich/Wired When Amazon’s first Kindle Fire tablet made its debut a year ago, the specs and performance couldn’t come close to Apple’s market-dominating iPad. But that didn’t seem to matter much to most consumers. Amazon sold millions of the underpowered little slates, making the Kindle Fire the online retailer’s most popular item and the only tablet other than the iPad to have significant sales numbers — due in large part to its $200 price tag. But the follow-up Fire HD launches amid a very different tablet landscape. We now have Asus and Google’s Nexus 7, which came out in May and redefined the 7-inch tablet category. It had so much speed, sophistication and understated style that we compared it to a Porsche and deemed it the absolute be...

The iPad mini: “Not just a shrunken down iPad”

Image
“This isn’t just a shrunken down iPad. There’s nothing as amazing as this.” It’s finally here! The iPad mini has arrived! Weighing in at just 0.68 lbs, and just 7.2mm thick, the iPad mini is 53% lighter than the standard iPad, and it comes in black and white, similar to the color scheme of the iPhone 5. THe design appears to much similar to that of the iPhone, with a flat back, and of course, the famed thinner bezels! It’s rocking a 7.9 inch display, sadly, not Retina, instead it features the same display as the iPad 2, 1024 x 768. Now obviously, the smaller screen size will make it a lot sharper, but more importantly, all current iPad software will be compatible with this new generation of tablet. It’s great for reading your email, surfing the web, and managing photos. It appears that this is more for content consumption than creation. It’s particularly excellent for gaming, reading a magazine or a book, and running iWork apps. During the event, the iPad mini was pit...

Googler loads Ubuntu on an ARM-based Samsung Chromebook, gives solace to the offline among us

Image
Samsung's  ARM-running Chromebook  is barely out of the starting gate, and it's already being tweaked to run without as much of an online dependency. By a Google employee, no less. Not content to rely solely on  Chrome OS , Olof Johansson has loaded  Ubuntu  on the Chromebook by partitioning an SD card, mixing OS components and booting from USB. The technique unsurprisingly requires being more than a little comfortable with a  Linux  command line as well as playing fast and loose with the warranty. It also won't be cheap or quick -- commenters note that you'll ideally have a partitioning-friendly SD card, and running a desktop OS from a slower kind of flash storage creates an inherent bottleneck. Anyone who likes the Chromebook's $249 price, but isn't as enraptured with the cloud as most of the team in Mountain View, might still want to try Johansson's step-by-step process for themselves.

Google’s New Chromebook Laptop Arrives In Google’s Play Store For $250

Image
Google’s new  Chromebook has made its landing in the Play Store  store for the promised $250 price tag, marking a relaunch of sorts of the Chromebook platform for Google. With a $250 price point, you score an Exynos 5 processor, 11.6″ 1366 x 768 display, 6.5 battery life, HDMI port, 2.5 pound frame and a Mali-T604 GPU for taking care of any 3D processing needs. Google’s got a fairly lofty idea with the Chromebook: to live life completely in the browser and if you have the right expectations, it’s not a half bad adventure. With all the Chrome apps available that live in tabs, you won’t get the same kind of multitasking experience like you would on a traditional PC, but the point of this computer is to drop all that “extra” junk. So what do you think, a nice holiday gift for someone? Google Play

Is Die Antwoord’s “Fatty Boom Boom” Going Against the “Evil” Music Industry?

Image
For months, I’ve been receiving e-mails about the South-African rap-rave group Die Antwoord, saying something like  “OMG theirr illumanaty!!”  Since the release of their new video  Fatty Boom Boom,  e-mails now say  “OMG therre anti-illumanaty!!”.  So are they for it? Against it? Don’t care about it? What’s the answer? (Get it? Die Antwoord means “the answer” in Afrikaans – so clever). At first glance, it is hard not to be weirded-out by the visual esthetics of the group, which seem to be tailor-made to piss-off the parents of rebellious kids. Their videos always deliver a whole lot of shock-value coupled with a “don’t give a damn” attitude that is pleasing audiences around the world. They are credited for having popularized Zef, a South-African counter-culture movement that I can only describe as “South-African-trailer-trash-ghetto-fabulous”. Yolandi Visser of Die Antwoord said,  “It’s associated with people who soup their cars up and rock ...
