S Voice + Google Now = ?

Image
Okay, we get it. Apple certainly got something going with the premiere of Siri on the iPhone 4S. It may have been regarded as a gimmick at first but as time has further progressed we’re seeing it become an everyday thing and competitors are left scrambling to create their own voice assistants. If you browse the Google Play Store you can find a plethora of Siri imitators who attempt to do the same things but fall short. The biggest shortcoming for these apps are the fact that they’re not integrated into the operating system itself. They’re simply a standalone app that can’t quite reach the same level as other official voice assistants from manufacturers. And this is where Samsung came in with S Voice . They created the first fully fledged voice assistant for Android that was built right into the operating system itself. The problem? It only comes on the Galaxy S III as of now meaning that if you don’t have one then you’re still st...

google fiber

Image
Google Fiber Already Has Over 3,900 Pre-Registrations Google’s latest endeavor as an Internet Service Provider seems to be taking off, in many sorts. Google asked for people to pre-register so that they could know where to focus their initial rollout the most. These neighborhoods with the most interest will obviously receive the service first. And, as expected, people are showing huge interest in the first days of pre-registration. Over 3,900 people have pre-registered, securing a solid foundation for the service. With Google promising 1GB per second speeds, who wouldn’t be interested? At the moment, Google Fiber is still only available in Kansas City. But, depending on its success, it will expand out to other parts of the nation in due time. If you don’t remember pricing and everything it can offer, check out this article to get y...

Jelly Bean Arrives in AOKP Form For The AT&T Galaxy Note, SGSII Skyrocket and Evo 4G

Image
With development for Cyanogenmod 10 already underway, it’s no surprise that we’re beginning to see unofficial Jelly Bean builds arrive for an array of devices. A group of well-recognized developers over at  XDA  have managed to port Android 4.1 AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) to the AT&T Galaxy Note, SGSII Skyrocket, as well as Sprint’s very own Evo 4G. In the list of things not working, all three ROMs cite that they have similar issues to CM10 builds on the same devices. This includes some hiccups in Google Now functionality, camera issues, some video codec issues, and other bugs. These bugs are expected to go away in later releases, so if you’re looking for something more solid, all you need to do is wait. These builds aren’t perfect, but nearly everything is functioning properly. Some users may not find them suitable for daily drivers, but they are definitely a blast to test out and have some fun with. As always, the developers...

Arnold Schwarzenegger Left “Bad Energy” In House

Image
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are having a tough time unloading their home–which they put up for sale after their marriage hit the rocks following Arnold’s indescretions–and Maria reportedly thinks they can’t find a buyer because the house has “bad energy”. “She thinks the land has bad energy,” a friend of the family said . “Maria’s a very spiritual person and she doesn’t want any negativity in her life, especially after everything she went through, so she just wants it gone from her life. The 25-acre property is a historic part of Santa Barbara, boasting such old-Hollywood inhabitants as Clark Gable, John Wayne, and Jimmy Stewart, making the $4.495 million asking price seem like a steal. Still, it’s difficult to sell a property when everyone knows its dark ...

New Weight-Loss Drug May Help Keep Pounds at Bay

New Weight-Loss Drug May Help Keep Pounds at Bay A potential new weight-loss drug created by scientists may help people shed pounds and keep them off, researchers say. In the study, obese mice treated with the drug ate less, lost weight and experienced improved metabolic health, such as reduced insulin resistance, compared with obese mice not given the drug. The drug appears to work by increasing the body's sensitivity to leptin, a hormone that suppresses appetite. It's thought that obese people become desensitized to leptin, meaning their bodies do not respond to it. "By sensitizing the body to naturally occurring leptin, the new drug could not only promote weight loss , but also help maintain it," said study researcher George Kunos , of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Because the study was conducted in mice, it's not clear whether the effects will translate to people. The researchers plan to start tests of ...

ouya android game comsole

Image
Ouya, the Kickstarter smash, is a hit among almost everybody who has seen it. The Android-based gaming console is supposed to revolutionize the gaming industry. In addition, it may be the smallest console to date. Instead of only being slim, such as older Playstations, the device will only be about the size of a Rubik’s Cube. For a console with as much capability as the developers claim, that’s stunning. Ouya, themselves, claim the device will be able to fit virtually anywhere in a room or even tossed in a backpack for easy portability. Gone are those days of leaving your saved game behind or not being able to bring your games at all. Play anytime and anywhere you have a Television available. ZTE First to Launch Non-Nexus Device with Jelly Bean

Image
It’s been a race to see just who can release Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the public first. Many expected HTC or some even Samsung, who has historically been slow in the update process. But, strangely enough, ZTE is the first smartphone manufacturer to release a Jelly Bean phone. The ZTE N880, although lower specs, is the first non-Nexus device to come fresh from the box with Android 4.1. ZTE claims it has accomplished this feat due to its good relationship with Google. Although it’s the first with Jelly Bean, it has surprisingly low specs. It’s packing a single-core 1GHz CPU, a 4″ WVGA screen, 512 MB of RAM and a 3.2 MP camera. Before tossing it out the window though, maybe Project Butter will have an awesome influence on low-end phones as well? We can assume it will at least help right?

CyanogenMod 10 Preview for the US Galaxy S III Variants

Image
CyanogenMod 10 Preview for the US Galaxy S III Variants Jelly Bean has been flying around the forums at speeds approachable only by certain science fiction spaceships . With numerous ports ranging from SDK ports to unofficial CM10 ports and source-built AOSP ROMs, XDA has not been short on Jelly Bean since its debut. There’s even been talk of official  CyanogenMod 10 being readied for release. For the US variants of the Samsung Galaxy S III , official preview builds are now available. How official are these builds, one might ask? Well, the big man himself, XDA Recognized Developer cyanogen posted CyanogenMod 10 for the AT&T and T-Mobile versions himself. Heading up the Sprint version is XDA Recognized Developer noobnl . Although the versions are 100% official, they are still considered preview builds, which means that there are some issues. The AT&T and T-Mobile versions seem to have the same issues, as posted by cyanogen: * Overlay for UI ...

Apparently, the Pebble team has not been able to get production into gear yet. The company ...

Ice-T is not a fan of gun control

Image
Ice-T speaks out against gun control. People react outside Gateway High School a few blocks from the scene of the Century 16 Theatre shootings in Aurora, Colorado July 20, 2012. A gunman in a gas mask and bullet-proof vest killed 12 people at a midnight premiere of the new Batman movie in a suburb of Denver early on Friday, sparking pandemonium when he hurled a gas canister into the auditorium and opened fire on moviegoers. (Reuters/Courtesy) Would stricter gun laws have prevented the Aurora shootings? For the second time this week, someone famous has answered that question by suggesting that less guns equals more bombs. First it was Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper in an interview with CNN . Now, it's Ice-T. In an interview with London's Channel 4, Ice-T, who is known as the "godfather of gangster rap," argued that people need weapons to protect themselves from police officers, according to the Huffingto...

GOAT MAN IN UTAH MOUNTAIN

Image
Official: 'Goat man' in Utah mountains is hunter   State wildlife officials have identified the man who has been spotted dressed in a goat suit among a herd of wild goats in the mountains of northern Utah . Phil Douglass of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said Monday the mystery man is a 57-year-old hunter from Southern California. Douglass told the Standard-Examiner that the hunter called officials and provided enough information to put their curiosity to rest. Douglass says he didn't ask for a name. The man told Douglass he was preparing for an archery hunt of mountain goats next year and testing a goat suit. Douglass says the hunter came to Utah because he heard it was easier to get near goats for training. The man described his suit as a hooded painter's uniform and a fleece. ___

IPHONE5, MINI IPAD COMING ON SEPTEMBER?

Image
Analyst: iPhone 5, iPad Mini Coming In September Apple’s next-gen iPhone — and the much-talked about (but yet unseen) iPad mini — are some of the most hotly anticipated gadgets of the year. And according to a report by relatively on-point KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPhone and iPad mini will launch in September. Thus far, we’ve heard that the iPhone 5 will have a larger 4.08-inch display maintaining the same width as current models, at 640 pixels. TechCrunch has also confirmed — along with Reuters more recently — that the new iPhone will replace its original 30-pin connector dock with a 19-pin mini port . The iPad mini , on the other hand, is said to be the same thickness as the iPod touch 4G, with a screen measuring 7.85-inches. He expects that iPad mini sales should hit 1.8 million units during the time its available (1-2 weeks) in Q3. Of course, Kuo (and the rest of the world) expects Q4 numbers for both products to be ridiculously high, ...

bossT will get a samsung galaxy sII?

Image
Boost May Be Blessed With a Galaxy S II Sprint has been a pretty good parent company to its subsidiaries. Both its prepaid counterparts, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile, have been getting some pretty sweet phones to add to their arsenal. Both carriers got an Evo (Design on Boost/3D (V) on Virgin), and now it looks like Boost will be receiving one of Sprint’s more recent flagships, the Epic 4G Touch. One of the most popular phones from last year has strangely never made it to any prepaid carriers in the states. Now it seems it’ll finally make a splash for consumers who hate contracts. The model number SPH-D710BST indicates its arrival due to the BST at the end, which is a signature of all Boo...

Image
Samsung Galaxy Reverb Tweeted into Existence A new Galaxy has become officially official via Tweet. The Samsung Galaxy Reverb will be headed to Sprint shores soon. It will also be making an appearance on its subsidiary, Virgin Mobile. Its specs suggest it will be a low to mid-range phone and will be packing a 1.4GHz single-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and a WVGA 4-in screen. One major plus is that this low-end devices will be running a version of ICS. Although, it is not Jelly Bean, it’s still good to see much more modern software being pre-loaded on phones. Especially considering a new phone, Xperia Ion, is still only running Gingerbread. It’s also goo...

Kristen Stewart

Image
Kristen Stewart Isn’t Afraid to Swing a Golf Club Kristen Stewart is already a veteran Hollywood actress and, from what I’ve been told, something a fashion icon. Of course, none of that information should come as a huge surprise to anyone who has followed her around since her “Panic Room” days. However, despite the girl’s many talents, playing sports which require her to come into direct contact with sunlight isn’t one of them. Or so I thought, anyway. Apparently I’ve been proven wrong once again. Stewart, armed with glaringly white skin, recently decided to swing some clubs around the ol’ golf course on July 20th. Judging from the picture you see embedded below, Kristen seems to be taking the game rather seriously. Never mind the fact she appears to have rolled from her ...

american idol judges - who will replace j-lo?

Image
American Idol Hosts Auditions for Judges: Will We Get To Decide Who Replaces Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler?! With reports that Mariah Carey is inching closer to cementing a deal with FOX , and Randy Jackson presumably staying put (for now), there’s still one spot left to fill on the judges’ panel of the hit reality competition, American Idol , and filling it won’t be easy. Faced with budget constraints, faltering ratings, and the daunting task of finding a trio with the right “chemistry,” Nigel Lythgoe and company definitely have their work cut out for them ahead of Season 12. So will they be asking for America’s help when it comes to replacing Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler ? What better way to boost ratings and make the fans happy than to give them the final say as to who’s going to fill the last chair on the judges’ panel? It may not be the plan right now, but it’s definitely something that Idol producers will be considering as they weigh the...

Docs at odds over kids' cholesterol test guidance

Docs at odds over kids' cholesterol test guidance Should all kids get cholesterol tests? Doctors can't agree on widespread screening guidelines  Should all U.S. children get tested for high cholesterol? Doctors are still debating that question months after a government-appointed panel recommended widespread screening that would lead to prescribing medicine for some kids. Fresh criticism was published online Monday in Pediatrics by researchers at one university who say the guidelines are too aggressive and were influenced by panel members' financial ties to drugmakers. Eight of the 14 guidelines panel members reported industry ties and disclosed that when their advice was published in December. They contend in a rebuttal article in Pediatrics that company payments covered costs of evaluating whether the drugs are safe and effective but did not influence the recommendations. It als...

'Dark Knight Rises' Director Calls Colorado Shooting a 'Senseless Tragedy;' Film Still Selling at Box Office

Image
'Dark Knight' Paris Premiere Cancelled After Colorado Shooting Christopher Nolan, director of " The Dark Knight Rises, " is calling the mass shooting at a midnight showing of the film in Aurora, Colo. that left at least 12 people dead and more than 70 injured a "senseless tragedy." "Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of 'The Dark Knight Rises,' I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community," he said in a statement released by his publicist today. "I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime. "The movie theat...

Jennifer Jason Leigh Gets Some Revenge

Image
Jennifer Jason Leigh may have gotten her film start in a quirky little movie about teenage sex and drugs, but she quickly proved herself to have a darker side which fairly shines on camera. And while she’s been out of the limelight for a while, she’s about to jump back in with a role on the highly popular ABC drama “Revenge”. The actress won over the hearts of millions in the cult classic Cameron Crowe film “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” as the sweet but naive girl-next-door, Stacy. But it was when she tackled the darker nature of a woman that she shot to stardom, creeping us all out in “Single White Female” as a psycho stalker before moving on to play Dolores Claiborne’s troubled daughter in the Stephen King film. Since then she’s appeared in several films and shorts–and even lent her voice to animated features like “Hey Arnold! The Movie” and “King Of The Hill”–but it’s been a while since we’ve seen her...

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Get Close

Image
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Get Close: Twitter Reacts Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis enjoyed some serious PDA while out on a recent lunch date, giving authors of “That 70′s Show” fan fiction plenty of inspiration for their latest masterpiece. Seeing Kutcher and Kunis together seems kind of strange, really, given their relationship on the aforementioned sitcom. Then again, that’s probably just me. For some folks out there, the idea of the co-stars hooking up is apparently really good news. You’ll see for yourself in just a moment. If the pair are officially a couple, neither one is offering up anything concrete on the subject at the moment. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Kunis nimbly avoided answering any revealing questions about her relation...
