WEIGHT LOSS PILL, BELVIQ

Image
US agency approves weight-loss pill, Belviq US health regulators have approved a weight-loss pill for the first time in 13 years. Belviq, made by Arena Pharmaceutical, can be used by obese or overweight adults with at least one condition. The drug achieved only modest results in clinical studies, helping people lose on average about 5% of their body weight. Belviq was rejected in 2010 because of concerns over tumours that developed in animals tested with the drug. After San Diego-based Arena resubmitted its application with more data, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found little risk of tumours in humans using the drug. Side effects The medication is expected to launch in 2013. Belviq is designed to block appetite signals in the brain, making patients feel fuller with smaller amounts of food. GOOGLE SEARCH VS SIRI

Image
Siri Has Nothing On New Google Search, Needs To Go Back To School With Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google has made Siri think about going back to school. In a gargantuan 1600-question test, Gizmodo tested new Google Voice Search up against Apple’s Siri. The results are pretty shocking. In the test Google Search answered 86% of questions correctly or relevantly. Siri, on the other hand, answered only a mere 68% accurately. Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder and loved-by-all tech guy, has even said Siri has its issues. The Woz said, “It’s now full of market-driven answers that are not correct.” Google’s new voice search seems to be much more conversational and actually sounds much more natural ...

US ARMY WILL USE ANDROID

Image
US Army Arsenal To Be Upgraded to Android, Chosen Over iOS And Windows Phone The United States Army has decided that Android is its best fit when searching for a platform for its new data network. In fact, troops will be deployed with none other than the Motorola Atrix. Said to offer more versatility than other platforms, the Armed Forces chose Android over competing platforms iOS and Windows Phone. So what will the Army use Android for? Possible uses include, tracking danger with maps functionality and even allowing notifications to communicate strategical information or imminent danger in the notifications tray. Overall, the system should prove extremely useful for organization and strategical planning out in the field. Even with an older phone like the Atrix, it’s good to see Android having a pr...

galaxy note II

Image
[Rumor] Galaxy Note II Spec Update, Slated for September Release? Samsung has recently become Fort Knox when it comes to releasing phone specs earlier than they want you to know. The Galaxy Note II (or 2?) is no exception.  The tabletphone has only been a rumor with Samsung neither confirming nor denying its existence at all. However, according to an inside source of GSM Arena , possible specifications have surfaced. The device is said to sport a 5.5 inch super AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, dual-core Exynos 5250 chipset and an 8MP camera on the rear. The design may take a note from its cousin, the Galaxy S III, having many more curves in many more places. Expected for release around September, Samsung is probably trying to persuade possible iPhone 5 users over to their side of the playground with this monster.

Any installations of Flash after the August 15th date will require finding and installing the APK on all your own. HTC One V Now Available On Virgin Mobile For Just $199

Image
HTC One V Now Available On Virgin Mobile For Just $199 We reported a while back that the HTC One V was apparently set for a June release date and now that has come true as Virgin Mobile has begun selling the phone today $199. This is the lowest of the HTC One series but still features decent specs for $199 without a contract. It includes a 3.7″ 800×480 display, a 1GHz single-core processor, a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording, and is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC’s Sense 4 overlay. Not too shabby for $199 without a contract. Any of our Virgin Mobile readers planning to pick one of these up?

Sergey Brin, the CEO and co-founder of Google, wears a Google Glass during a product demonstration Wednesday during Google I/O 2012 at Moscone Center in San Francisco.  Google helped create a world brimming with digital distractions for people spending more of their lives tethered to the Internet. It's a phenomenon that seems unlikely to change so Google is working on a way to search for information, read text messages, watch online video and post photos on social networks without having to fumble around with a hand-held device. The breakthrough is a wearable computer — a pair of internet-connected glasses that Google Inc. began secretly building more than two years ago. The technology progressed far enough for Google to announce "Project Glass" in April. Now the futuristic experiment is moving closer to becoming a mass-market product. Google announced Wednesday that it's selling a prototype of the glasses to U.S. computer programmers attendi...

magic mike

Great Debate: Will Magic Mike Give Audiences What They Want? 0 "It's not what you're expecting." That was the warning coming from critics the minute the embargo lifted on Magic Mike , the Steven Soderbergh film whose trailers have promised glittery, pop-fueled male strip shows, the movie version of a bachelorette party. Even as the movie has been getting rave reviews , some critics seem to wonder if Magic Mike being a more dramatic, low-key movie than expected might hurt it, and if the female-driven audiences expected to show up this weekend will wind up liking what they see. Katey and Kristy were both among those women excited to see Magic Mike , and while Katey loved it , Kristy didn't , and she thinks audience won't go for it either. So, of course, we decided to Great Debate about it, and wonder out loud if when audiences go see Magic Mike this weekend, they'll like what they get. Take a look at the debate below, and read ca...

sun screen

Enlarge By Jesse Michener It turns out that many schools and camps do that worrying for parents, with policies that ban kids from carrying sunscreen without a doctor's note and warn staffers not to dispense it. Such policies are getting new scrutiny this week, thanks to Jesse Michener, a mother in Tacoma, Wash., who was horrified to see two of her daughters, ages 11 and 9, return from a school field day with severe sunburns. The girls have extremely fair skin, and none of the adults at the event offered them sunscreen — or shade, for that matter — as a rainy day turned sunny, Michener, 37, wrote in a post in her blog, Life.Photographed, that got nationwide attention. More than a week later, their skin still is peeling and red, Michener told USA TODAY Wednesday: "It's appalling." Michener says school officials have promised her the sunscreen policy will be changed by fall, thanks to a change in state law that gives schools new leeway...

sea in a moon

Tides stretching Saturn's haze-shrouded moon, Titan, hint a global ocean hides under its crust, report Cassini spacecraft scientists . CAPTION A. Tavani Gravity measurements made in six flybys of the moon by the international Cassini spacecraft show its 16 day-orbit of Saturn is marked by stretching and deformation of its crust. Cassini has explored Saturn and its moons since 2004, most dramatically parachuting a European probe onto its methane ice surface in 2005. " Titan is highly deformable over time scales of days," concludes the S cience   journal discovery report led by Luciano Iess of Italy's Università La Sapienza in Rome. A subsurface ocean, likely water laced with ammonia and perhaps sulfur, lurking within about 60 miles of its surface best explains this deformation, suggests the study team . The largest of Saturn's moons, Titan is about 3,200 miles across, making it one of the largest moons in the solar system, most remark...
