Kik Messenger 6.0 Includes New Multimedia Features To Take On What’s App
November 30, 2012
Kik Messenger’s 6.0 update brings about it
some new, remarkable multimedia features in the form of downloadable
“cards”. There are 3 downloadable cards that you can use for your Kik
Messenger at the moment.
- The first one being the YouTube card. It lets you search, watch and send YouTube videos all within your Kik Messenger app.
- The second being the Sketch card which lets you draw pictures and send pictures with your friends.
- The final card for the time being is the Image Search card which lets you view images all throughout the web and send them to your friends.
These cards are completely optional to use
and will be stored on a small tab on the left side of your screen. If
you want to keep your chat messages multimedia free, you can.
The new cards feature is built entirely on
HTML5 which will allow Kik Messenger to distribute it to both Android
and iOS at the same time. This will also allow more cards to be
developed quicker. Kik Messenger CEO Ted Livingston said,
“We can build out hundreds of cards that the user can go in and add. It’s going to keep us ahead of our competitors.”
Kik Messenger wanted to implement new features without disturbing the core feature of it’s app; text messaging. Livingston said,
“On one side users want all theses features, but on the other side we wanted to keep the messenger really, really simple.”
Kik Messenger has just reached 30 million
downloads throughout various platforms, and is consistent at 100,000
downloads a day. This makes it one of the top messaging apps on
smartphones, right below What’s App. Unfortunately it still has a long
way to go if it wants to catch up with What’s App, who’s sitting at 100
million downloads on Android only… with an assumed 200 million downloads
throughout all platforms.
If you haven’t downloaded Kik Messenger 6.0 yet, you can get it here.
