time to move to iphone?
FaceTime over 3G/4G is finally here (almost)
When Apple announced FaceTime alongside the iPhone 4, they said that they would be “enabling [FaceTime] on 3G” at sometime in the future. Well, almost 2 years passed without any word or update on that. Today at WWDC, we finally got what we wanted to here. FaceTime will be enabled over cellular in iOS 6. The big question now is: how will this affect carrier data plans? In the U.S., carrier’s data plans have been getting smaller and smaller over the past year. Now, many are going to shared (Verizon) data plans where you share data with everyone on the plan, which can add up fast if you are using a Family Plan. FaceTime, I would assume, uses a large amount of data, so unless Apple made some sort of deal with carriers, this is going to hurt people’s data plans like crazy. Except for those that were lucky enough to be grandfathered in to unlimited, which not many were.
What do you think? Will this make you buy a larger data plan? Will you even use FaceTime over 3G? Let us know in the comments.
