Google’s Nexus Q Announced, Brings Google Play To Your HomE

Google TV has been Google’s living room project for the last few years, but they’re now throwing a new product into the mix: Nexus Q. The Nexus Q is essentially a connected media streaming device, with access to Google Play. It looks like Google is strongly pushing Google Play, in hopes to make it a new popular ecosystem.
Described by Google as an Android-powered computer that can stream media, it’s looking like this is a direct competitor to Apple’s Apple TV. It also puts an emphasis on music, so all forms of streaming media are included. Everything is controlled by Android devices like a phone or tablet, and everything is in the cloud. There’s also features like social streaming options, so friends can get together and make their own playlists. The specs:
  • OMAP 4460 dual-core processor
  • Optical audio out
  • HDMI
  • NFC
  • Bluetooth
  • Hacker-friendly
Priced at $299, it’s a high price point. Orders can be made today, with shipping starting in July. Google’s targeting a whole-home ecosystem here, along with the Android hacking community. We’ll have to see how it does when released, as the home media streaming market is pretty tight right now.
