iPhone 5 set for August 7th launch?

Between April and October last year we had an onslaught of differing rumors when it came to the next iPhone’s released date, feature list and design. This year has been no different. And – if I’m honest – sometimes I’d rather be buried under a rock than have to read so many different rumors from varying “sources within the industry”. Gone are the days when we could pick the release date with certainty. After last year, anything could happen.
The latest guess to be thrown in to the raffle hat is August 7th. The most recent speculation is that the handsets have already gone in to production, and could be ready much earlier than any of us were expecting. Despite Apple throwing away its 12 month release cycle last year with the 4S, we all still assumed that Cupertino would unveil the 6th incarnation of the iPhone one year after the 5th gen.
According to one of KnowYourMobile‘s sources, Apple is set to have a keynote event on August 7.
A reliable industry source who wishes to remain anonymous revealed to Know Your Mobile that Apple’s highly-anticipated and much-rumoured iPhone 5 will be launched via a keynote speech on August 7.”
If I had a dollar for every time a “reliable industry source” was wrong, and for each time an official “exclusive” rumor was incorrect, I’d have a whole lot of currency unusable in my country. But, I’d be a wealthy man in the States. Although I wouldn’t be entirely surprised to see Cupertino change up the release cycle (again), I still can’t see how likely this is. I’ll wait for the official announcement. Until then, I’m sticking with the October date.
Do you think I’m wrong, or will Apple keep to last year’s time frame? Tweet: @WILL_PRZ
